Setting Goals: What Will You Achieve in 2010?

Successful people know what they want from life.  Their lives are characterized by a sense of passion, purpose and meaning.  Research confirms the “vision thing.”  Those who are certain about what they want to accomplish are up to SIX times more likely to successfully make life changes than those who are less certain.  Conversely, those with conflicting goals, or those who are ambivalent about their goals, are significantly more likely to:

  • Experience depression and anxiety
  • Be less happy and less satisfied with their lives
  • Have more physical illnesses and doctor’s visits
  • Be indecisive, uncertain and rebellious
  • Be easily distracted and procrastinate
  • Spend more time thinking about their goals and
  • Spend less time taking action toward their goals

This being said I have been thinking about my goals for the upcoming year.  2009 has been a wonderful year and I achieved most if not all of my goals that I had set for myself.  I had a healthy pregnancy and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, my business has continued to grow, my husband and I moved our family to the Westside of town, I am now working for Brooke Burke as the pre and postnatal fitness specialist for her website modermom.com and have been able to shoot several short videos with her.  Lastly and probably my biggest career goal to date is that I have just released my first fitness DVD.

Having accomplished all of this in one year you might be thinking wow she can sit back and cost through 2010, but that’s not how I look at it.  I am always thinking about how I can do more, achieve more and provide more not just to my family but to people interested in pursuing their fitness goals.

As 2010 approaches everyone starts talking about New Year resolutions, but I want to encourage you to think about New Year goals.  Resolution is almost looked at as a joke now, something that you say you will do and it lasts for a few weeks before you return to your old ways.  So instead I encourage you to set goals for you self.  Not just your fitness goals, look at all areas of your life and set goals for all of them.  What is most important to you?  What do  you want to achieve?  Who do you want to be?  Next think about how you will go about accomplishing these goals.  Be specific it’s important.

I would like to share a few of my goals with all of you.

My business Goals:  Being that I just released my first prenatal fitness DVD it’s only natural to set a goal of how many I want to sell and I want to sell 5000 this year.  I also want to train a PREGNANT celebrity as well as work with a celebrity who has just delivered.  Yes,  I say celebrity because it is a way to get my business out there and for non-celebrities to find me and my videos and then I would be able to reach a lot more women:)  I also want to add 5 more clients to my roster.

My Personal Goals: This is a big one for me, my goal is to continue to work on finding the balance between mom, business woman, and wife.  My other goals is to spend more time with my girlfriends.  Easier said than done, trust me.

My Fitness Goals: To run a 5k, yes I can run a 5k without a problem but I actually want to participate in a race.  Increase my mile time to a 9 minute mile.  Continue to workout 5 days a week consistently.  This is probably the area for me that I have the least goals not because I dont care but because I work really hard on my fitness on a very regular basis, and I am always pushing for the next goal, longer workouts, more crunches, more push-ups….

Take time before this new year begins, sit down and really think about YOUR goals.  Then write them down and put them somewhere that you can look at them every day.  As you achieve them, mark them off of your list and then set new goals.
